Advanced thermal conversion specialist Energos will supply gasification technology for the £145m integrated waste management centre that Interserve 91ºÚÁÏÍø is building in Derby.
Resource Recovery Solutions (Derbyshire) Ltd (RRS) has a PPP contract to build the plant and operate it for 27 years for Derby City and Derbyshire County Councils. Â RRS is a joint venture of Interserve, which will build it, and Shanks, which will operate it on completion.
The Energos advanced conversion technology (ACT) forms an integral part of the Derby and Derbyshire New Waste Treatment Facility, which includes a new mechanical biological treatment (MBT) facility.
The ACT will process up to 140,000 tonnes of refuse derived fuel (RDF) produced by RRS from municipal residual, non-hazardous waste. It will generate 11.05 MW of green electricity – sufficient to power 14,000 homes.
Energos is currently constructing ACTs in Glasgow and Milton Keynes and has plans in the pipeline in Knowsley, Irvine and Lisburn.
