The contract represents early fruit for Wates鈥� expansion drive in the northeast.
The Girls鈥� Day School Trust has commissioned Wates to remodel the Victorian school buildings at Tankerville Terrace and construct a new 3,625 m2 three-storey building. The development follows the merger of Central Newcastle High School and Church High School to create Newcastle High School for Girls.
The new extension, designed by architect Ellis Williams, will include a multi-purpose assembly hall, dining room, gym, science labs and classroom spaces. The project also includes landscaping the whole site.
Work starts this month with completion scheduled for summer 2016.
Wates has adopted a strategy of expand into new markets in Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear. This project is the first win in its regional growth strategy, although Wates has worked for the Girls鈥� Day School Trust, at South Hampstead High School in London and Sheffield High School.
