Get ready for Bauma 2025

3 Mar Bauma is the world’s biggest construction equipment exhibition – in fact it’s almost too big. In the week from 7th to 13th April you’ll only have time to see a fraction of the products and services on show – so it pays to plan your trip carefully

The show takes place every three years at Munich鈥檚 enormous show ground and this year鈥檚 event is the 34th.听
The last Bauma, in 2022, hosted around 3,200 exhibitors from 60 countries and attracted more than 495,000 visitors.
This year鈥檚 event is likely to be at least as big. Some of the larger exhibitors began building their stands in October, six months before the event.听
Over the next few pages we describe just a tiny selection of the equipment that will be on show.

BKT Tyres

Big earthmovers need big tyres (unless they鈥檙e on tracks, of course) and at this year鈥檚 Bauma you鈥檒l find some of the biggest tyres on the BKT stand.

Among the rubber displayed by BKT is the new Earthmax SR468, a radial tyre designed specifically for rigid dump trucks, and the Earthmax SR53-L-5 for heavy wheeled loaders.

The SR53-L-5 is also suitable for use on underground mining trucks and loaders working in scrap yards.

The L-5 design features a deep tread and uses cut-resistant compounds to extend wear life and maximise traction.

Brokk

Think of robotic demolition machines and you probably think of Brokk.

The Swedish company specialises in remote-controlled demolition machines designed to allow the safe demolition of structures while keeping the operator out of harm鈥檚 way.

Brokk is occupying both an indoor and outdoor stand at this year鈥檚 Bauma where its latest product developments are on show.

Among the machines present are the Brokk 70+, 170+, 200+ and 300+ models along with a range of specialised attachments designed for various applications in the construction, mining, tunnelling and nuclear decommissioning industries.

The outdoor stand is carrying out live demonstrations to demonstrate the machines鈥 precision and versatility and of course Brokk specialists are on hand to answer questions and explain how the company鈥檚 kit might meet a specific project鈥檚 needs.

Combilift

Combilift, the manufacturer of materials handling equipment based in Monaghan in the Irish Republic, is exhibiting a range of specialised lifting and handling machines at Bauma.

The company鈥檚 heavy-lifting machines dominate its presence at the show. These include the Combi-SC straddle carrier and Combi-MG mobile gantry, both designed to lift and carry heavy and awkward loads.

These machines are especially suited to product applications 鈥 for example in warehouses and marshalling yards handling precast concrete, steel and modular loads.

Combilift says that despite its maximum 100-tonne lifting capacity, the Combi-SC has a much lighter unladen weight than most other mobile cranes and gantries.

The Combi-MG, with a maximum lift capacity of 80 tonnes, can be operated in tandem and offers a safe and stable method of handling very long loads, such as wind turbine blade and aerospace components.

Also on show is the C-Series multidirectional forklifts with load capacities of up to 25 tonnes. These machines are also designed for manoeuvring long and bulky loads in confined spaces.

Alimak

Alimak is unveiling its new STS 300 scaffold hoist at Bauma with the claims that it will streamline workflow and boost productivity.

The new STS 300 is designed to transport scaffolding components vertically and horizontally and is compatible with most ring-lock scaffolds.. Alimak says that two people can install up to 300m2 of scaffolding in one day using the new STS 300.

Key features of the hoist include a swivel box that allows workers to remain safely behind handrails while handling materials at height, a 300kg lift capacity and a one-bolt mast connection that simplifies installation.

The swivelling box design significantly cuts down on excessive manual handling and reduces strain on the workers, says Alimak.

Palfinger

The Austrian truck loader crane manufacturer is displaying its full range of lifting equipment and services at Bauma.

The display includes the first viewing of a new crane, the PK 880 TEC, along with a range of high-tech bells and whistles including Palfinger鈥檚 Connected Plus system, P6 remote control and tiltable crane forks.

Another highlight is the Palfinger range of aerial work platforms, made at the company鈥檚 factory in Lobau, Germany. Four models from the range are on show with working heights from 19m to 28m. Two of the models are brand new.

Palfinger鈥檚 range of truck-mounted forklifts are represented by updated FL models and a completely new one.

Also on show is the Palfinger range of hookloaders and skiploaders.

The HP20ATEC hookloader is a new heavy-duty model designed specifically for efficient container handling on construction sites. Palfinger says this model is ideal for managing large waste containers and bulk materials like gravel.

Its design eliminates linear sliding components which significantly reduces wear and tear and minimises maintenance requirements, says the company.

Rapid International

Based in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, Rapid International specialises in the design and manufacture of soil stabilisation and remediation equipment.

Pride of place on the company鈥檚 Bauma stand is the Trackmix 250, an advanced mobile soil mixing and soil stabilising machine designed for improving soil quality for construction projects.

Like all of Rapid International鈥檚 mixing machines, the Trackmix 250 combines special binders with the soil to enhance its strength and durability for a wide range of applications from road construction to land reclamation.

The company claims that this not only improves the soil for construction purposes but also reduces carbon emissions, improves water retention and promotes soil health.

Giken

Japanese company Giken is one of the pioneers of low-noise, low-vibration hydraulic sheet piling systems.

At this year鈥檚 Bauma exhibition, the company鈥檚 European arm is exhibiting the Giken Reaction Base (GRB) system, a complete system comprising everything needed to install heavy duty sheet piling.

The GRB system comprises a hydraulic piling press, a special handling crane, an electric power unit with a special carrier to advance the power unit along the line of sheet piles.

The F401-1400 hydraulic press is a powerful press-in piling machine designed to install steel sheet piles in hard ground. The Clamp Crane CB3-6 is a telescopic crane boom specially designed for handling sheet piles and other components.

The MU200 electric power unit sits on top of the Unit Runner UR3, a moveable chassis that runs along the top of completed row of piles.

Giken鈥檚 鈥減ress-in鈥 principle uses hydraulic pressure to force sheet piles into the ground. Unlike conventional piling techniques which use impact or vibration to install piles, the Giken system is quiet and minimises ground disturbance.

The system is widely used on sensitive urban projects where noise and vibration are likely to create problems.

MB Crusher

Italian manufacturer MB Crusher makes end-of-boom attachments designed for crushing, screening, grading and grinding demolition material on-site.

Among the products on show at Bauma this year is a selection of crusher buckets for excavators, backhoe loaders and skid steers from 4.5 tonnes up to 100 tonnes (in the case of excavators).

Screening buckets for backhoe loaders and excavators up to 50 tonnes and shaft screeners for machines up to 45 tonnes are also making an appearance.

Visitors to the MB Crusher stand will also be able to find out more about the company鈥檚 other products, including drum cutters for skid steers and excavators up to 35 tonnes and sorting grapples for machines up to 30 tonnes.

Related Information

Some of these attachments can be seen in operation in the show鈥檚 demonstration area while a static display can be examined close up on the company鈥檚 indoor stand.

Hyundai

The Korean manufacturer鈥檚 stand in the middle open-air exhibition area, has 18 machines on display, including 10 that are either new or improved.

Among these is the HW250MH, a 26-tonne materials handler based on Hyundai鈥檚 largest wheeled excavator.

This machine can be fitted with either a monoboom or a gooseneck arm to suit different recycling and materials handling operations.

The HD130 is Hyundai鈥檚 first bulldozer, a 15-tonner with full electro-hydraulic controls and blade assist functions. The company promises 鈥渂est-in-class鈥 power output from the HD130.

Also on display is the HW155H, Hyundai鈥檚 first hydrogen-powered wheeled excavator. This machine was on static display at the last Bauma show three years ago but this time it can be seen working in the demonstration area.

The HW155H is paired with a hydrogen distribution vehicle to show how hydrogen-powered equipment might be operated on site.

New technology also features on the Hyundai stand. Visitors will be able to see an HL955A wheel loader working in Tessenderlo, Belgium and being controlled from the stand in Munich. Also on show is the AAVM+ safety visibility system and the Clearview X bucket system, along with a head-up display, machine control integration and other excavator safety systems.

MCS Rental Software

Berkshire-based MCS is promoting the latest version of its eSign system, which allows customers to sign documents electronically, at Bauma.

MCS eSign has been around for some time and allows rental companies to obtain digitally signed agreements with their customers without the need to print anything out or attaching documents to emails.

The latest version allows companies to send electronic signature requests via SMS, which MCS says will make the process even easier.

The company explains that very often it is difficult to obtain a digital signature from people such as site managers as they are often not at their desk and don鈥檛 have a computer within easy reach.

However, the new version of eSign allows recipients to sign from a mobile phone, which they are likely to carry at all times.

This speeds up the whole process and helps hire companies get equipment out to their customers quickly.

MCS sales director Nick Thomson said: Realistically, people are out and about on-site or in the yard, not sitting at a computer ready to digitally sign and return documents. Now, with the ability to send eSign requests via SMS, end-users can sign those documents on the move from their mobile phones.鈥

National Trench Safety

As the name implies, National Trench Safety specialises in shoring and temporary works equipment designed to support trenches and other excavations.

The company supplies trench boxes, hydraulic frames, trench sheets, sheet piles and piling attachments as well as a comprehensive range of ancillary products such as guardrails and fall-arrest systems.

NTS also offers its own slide-rail system that employs braces that can be slid up and down shoring plates to accommodate the installation of pipelines and other components within the excavation.

Returning to Bauma this year after a successful showing in 2022, NTS is expected to unveil a new product, a new lightweight polymer shoring system imported from the US.

Tsurumi

Tsurumi Pumps, the European arm of the Japanese pump manufacturer, is exhibiting a wide range of drainage and sewage pumps at this year鈥檚 Bauma show.

The company is also promoting and demonstrating its data link system, called Tsurumi Connect, which can be used to control and monitor nearly every pump in the Tsurumi range remotely.

Tsurumi claims to offer a wider range of dewatering and sewage pumps than any other manufacturer and says it is the only supplier of pumps in some applications. All of its products are available ex-stock.

The range includes high-pressure pumps for excavations more than 200m deep and a variety of highly specialised pumps including stainless steel models for handling aggressive fluids.

One of Tsurumi鈥檚 most powerful pumps will be on display at the show.

The CZ series is said to be the most powerful sewage pump available. These models incorporate a specially-designed cutter to prevent hard or fibrous solids from causing blockages.

Other wastewater pumps include TRN submersible aerators and MMS mixer pumps. Most of the models appearing on the Tsurumi stand are from the small and medium sized ranges. These include the LSC residue pump which can suck out fluids down to a depth of just one millimetre.

Scafom-Rux

Dutch scaffolding sales and rental firm Scafom-rux is emphasising its customer relations policy at Bauma this year.

The company says that it wants to assure both customers and partners of its desire to build 鈥渟olid and personal relationships鈥 with them.

So visitors to the stand can expect to hear a lot about 鈥渟mart鈥 scaffolding solutions, rental offers, design planning and finance packages.

The company is also displaying some of its scaffolding products at the show. These include its ultra-light Framescaff Alu system, its Ringscaff Sky suspended scaffold and its foldable and NASC SG4-compatible Permanent Advanced Guardrail.

Thwaites

Dumper manufacturer Thwaites is using Bauma to highlight its response to the new EN474 2022: part 1 & 6 鈥 the new European standard for site dumpers that came into force last month.

Part 1 of the new standard requires all front-mounted dumpers weighing in excess of 4.5 tonnes to be fitted with a ROPS/FOPS (roll-over and falling object protection) cab.

Part 6 requires dumpers weighing between 3.5 and 4.5 tonnes to have some means of preventing the operator from being thrown out of the machine in the event of a roll-over.

Needless to say, Thwaites has come to Bauma to exhibit machines that comply with the new standard.

These include the fully-cabbed Thwaites 9-tonne front-tip dumper and the 6-tonne Power Swivel front tip model which is offered with a choice of a full cab or 鈥楻OPS+鈥.

The company says that the ROPS+ option is a response to the desire by many customers for an open-air operator鈥檚 seat. It is essentially an improved steel ROPS protection system with a 鈥榟alo鈥 latch bar that is pulled over the locked into position in from of the operator.

The ROPS+ system requires the operator to be belted into the seat and incorporates safety sensors to prevent any attempt to circumvent the system.

ROPS+ prevents the dumper being driven until the operator is seated, the seat belt is fastened and the overhead bar has been deployed.

Other improvements include an extra hand-grip to help the operator mount the machine safely, a reinforced engine cover to bear the weight of the ROPS+ bar and a rear-view camera to improve all-round visibility.

Caterpillar

This year marks a milestone for the US construction equipment giant: 2025 is its centenary year.

Accordingly, Caterpillar鈥檚 9,000m2 exhibition space will feature no fewer than 48 machines including 17 new of improved models.

These include three recently introduced 鈥榥ext generation鈥 compact tracked loaders offering upgrades in engine power and torque, lift and tilt breakout forces and improved stability and operator comfort.

The new D8 dozer is also displayed. This model includes the new and improved operator cab that is already fitted to the D5 and D7 dozers and has a 15-degree angled seat for enhanced comfort.

Cat is launching a new material-handling excavator, the MH3032 at Bauma. This machine, aimed at the scrap metal industry, has a 15 m reach and a one cubic metre grapple and is equipped with various systems to improve safety, production and efficiency.

Other new additions to Caterpillar鈥檚 demolition, waste handling and recycling product ranges include the new 330 UHD ultra-high demolition excavator which features a new stability monitoring system with light and sound indicators in the cab.

Caterpillar is also exhibiting a range of engines, generators and battery storage units.
