The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust has secured funding for an all-new hospital, with construction expected to start in 2027-28.
The new hospital will be built on the site of the existing hospital鈥檚 main car park, so a new multi-storey car park is being built to make way for the new development, effectively as enabling works.
RG Carter has been awarded an 拢18m contract for the new multi-storey car park, which will have 1,310 spaces. It is being built on the site of the hospital鈥檚 Inspire Centre, which was demolished in 2023.
The contract award follows confirmation from the government last month of a funding envelope of 拢1bn to 拢1.5bn for the planned New Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The existing hospital needs replacing because of the reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) used in its construction is now crumbling.
