AmcoGiffen and Safety Shield Global say that they have 鈥減ushed the boundaries of digital worksite protection鈥 with the launch of their STREAM app.
STREAM stands for Site Team Reporting and Emergency Accident Management.聽It uses human form recognition (HFR) technology tailored to specific site dimensions and plant operations.
Providing real-time alerts to supervisors, and with a built-in escalation process for project and contract managers, STREAM warns of activities, processes, or behaviours that could lead to a potential people plant interface (PPI) event 鈥 situations where someone is at risked of being crushed or run over 鈥 allowing for immediate intervention.
Rail contractor AmcoGiffen partnered with tech specialist Safety Shield Global to develop the app, which has already been field tested and found to result in an 88% reduction in all incidents of PPI.
As a result of the trials, STREAM has now been mandated on all new AmcoGiffen sites to enhance its worker safety protocols.
STREAM is an extension to the Safety Shield Global鈥檚 VUE portal, which collates data on incidents of PPI from its alarm system that provides audio and visual alerts whenever an overly close human form is detected by a machine鈥檚 cameras.
AmcoGiffen SHEQ director Chris English said: 鈥淲hile the Safety Shield Vue portal initially allowed for data to be shared with senior management and safety representatives, we were keen for a system that would allow for quicker and wider cascading of information to the workforce.

鈥淭he real-time alerts allow our site supervisors to review the working environment, the work plan and any at-risk behaviours present. Understanding the cause enables a real-time intervention to stop work, and for the workforce to identify and agree different ways of working to eliminate PPI risk. We have already seen staggering results.鈥
Safety Shield chief executive Jonathan Guest founded his business 15 years ago, after the death of a friend who was crushed while working on a construction site.
He said: 鈥淥ur innovative partnership with AmcoGiffen, who embed behavioural science into daily operations, enables us to push boundaries and set new benchmarks for safety innovation.鈥
He added: 鈥淚t鈥檚 not just a tool, it鈥檚 a game-changer. Fast, seamless access to our data means clients can now turn insights into action faster than ever before, and this is evident in the initial trials where AmcoGiffen have seen an 88% reduction of at-risk behaviours around moving machinery. This is a natural and powerful extension of the data services we already provide, giving organisations a smarter, more responsive way to manage safety on the ground.
聽鈥淭ogether, we have created something smart and efficient that offers another crucial line of defence and our customisable features on both our Safety Shield systems, Vue portal and now STREAM app allow every industry to use it to best suit their needs.鈥
AmcoGiffen is now rolling out the STREAM app across all of its sites, and the app will ultimately be available for other Safety Shield clients to adopt into their operations.
