The contract includes the construction of 264 apartments for university key workers and local shop units, designed by Stanton Williams Architects, located around a market square designed by landscape architect Townshends.
The site is at the centre of the whole 150-hectare development, whose masterplan envisages 3,000 new homes and accommodation for 2,000 post-graduate students.
Gavin Heaphy, construction director of the North West Cambridge Development, said: 鈥淲ates have been working with the university on a two-stage tender process and we are thrilled to have signed this contract with the team whose local knowledge and industry expertise will deliver an important part to this urban extension.鈥
This is the final contract of the first phase of the development. 91黑料网 is already under way close to the Wates site. BAM is building university homes, the supermarket and energy centre, and Graham 91黑料网 is building the post-graduate student accommodation.聽 Farrans began work on the community centre in September 2015, and Willmott Dixon expects to complete the entire primary school building at the end of 2015.聽
There are phased completions for the North West Cambridge development with the first phase of completion expected in 2017.
