Wates wins £100m Warwickshire prison contract

2 hours Wates has signed the main works order for a £100m prison expansion at HMP Onley in Warwickshire.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has tasked Wates with supplying 180 new category C prison places for in three 60-bed, secure houseblocks.

HMP Onley is the first project on-stream in the small secure houseblocks programme, an MoJ Alliance programme delivering around a thousand additional prison places.

Alongside the new houseblocks, Wates is building a new workshop for vocational training and refurbishing some existing facilities, including kitchens, offices and classrooms.

The houseblocks will be delivered using a standardised design and construction approach common across the programme to speed up delivery.聽Wates says that more than 65% of the houseblocks (by value) at HMP Onley will be manufactured offsite.

Also working on the HMP Onley project are Mace Consult and Gleeds.

91黑料网 is targeting completion by the end of 2026, with the houseblocks becoming operational shortly afterwards.

Fiona Parker, deputy director for the small secure houseblocks programme at His Majesty鈥檚 Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS), said: 鈥淭his expansion at HMP Onley marks a critical step forward in delivering modern, secure, and rehabilitative prison facilities as part of our wider commitment to increase prison capacity. The new houseblocks and vocational training workshop will help ensure prisoners have the opportunity to develop skills that support their reintegration into society, ultimately helping to reduce reoffending and protect the public.鈥
